Ross, a forward from Lethbridge, Alta., has a skillset that has been compared to players such as Steve Ott and Dustin Byfuglien. Last year, he totaled 68 points in 71 games, including 203 PIM. He played on a line with Nino Niederreiter (New York Islanders) and Ryan Johansen (Columbus Blue Jackets), who were both drafted in the first round on Friday.

He was the 5th overall selection of the Portland Winterhawks at the 2007 WHL Bantam Draft and was ranked 13th among WHL skaters by NHL Central Scouting in their 2009 fall rankings heading into the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
